Hauntingly Beautiful Fashion at Polyglamorous

Article Written By: Eric Barrell

Brighton’s most sought-after queer nightlife event returns with a dark and mysterious twist for Halloween…

On October 18th, I had the pleasure of attending Polyglamorous: Brighton’s most fabulous queer dance party. Their parties are held approximately once a month at a Brighton nightclub and feature the most spectacular and creative looks that you’ll ever see being served on the Brighton scene. This event was held at CHALK Nightclub.

Every event has a different colour theme, with the October event being a fittingly black/Halloween theme. Black might seem like the easiest neutral colour to pull off, but a true style savant knows how to push it to the next level and create a look that is truly flawless and…beautiful? I say that as a question because many of the attendees were showcasing suitably dark and spooky Halloween looks that subvert traditional ideas of beauty yet pulling it off in such a stunning and original way that they created a new haunting beauty of their own.

One of the highlights of the night was a burlesque show performed by Dixie Dread. Attendees gathered around a big stage and watched as she performed to some suitably sensual music. Other drag artists and queer performers served dazzling looks as they moved their bodies to the music up on stage, and the crowd got super excited at the bops that were playing. (Seriously, if you’re into camp pop/PC Music/Dance/House bangers- Polyglam is the place for you). Every time I’ve been to a Polyglamorous event, the DJing and song selection is top notch, with artists beloved by the LGBTQ+ community yet often overlooked by the mainstream being celebrated there. Artists like SOPHIE, Kim Petras, Charli XCX and Azealia Banks: as well as the gay club staples of Beyoncé, Britney and the typical house/vogue/dance bops that you can dance wildly to.

Many of the attendees plan their outfits out far in advance and source and sew the materials themselves to create some stunning pieces that give Polyglamorous it’s unique flair as an unforgettable night of talent. Follow Polyglamorous on Instagram (@polyglamorousbrighton) to see updates on what attendees are making on their stories. You can also see many more pictures of the fabulous looks being served from the last event and all the differing spectacular colour events they’ve put on previously on their Instagram and their Polyglamorous Facebook Page.

Make sure you come to their next event on Friday 8th November at Chalk Venue. It’s the 1-year Birthday Party for Polyglamorous and the theme is pastels! Wear anything pastel coloured to get discount entry (£6 instead of 10). There are cheap drinks, gender neutral toilets, and the venue is fully accessible. Make sure you follow them on social media for any updates and I hope to see you at the next one!
